Pivots Series: In 2008, I was participated with seven artists from North America meeting with seven artists from Asia, in Yogycarta and Bali, Indonesia for two weeks. We discussed our similarities and differences and we all made art together. Less than a year later, a traveling exhibition called “Charis” toured the United States. I produced ten maquettes that were included in the exhibition. These images are representative of what influenced me. Color, the use of imagery in my installations for the first time, and new materials. The economic and religious realities that Indonesians face became the driving force in this body of work. Regardless of their religious differences, they had to work together to sustain their economy. Three of these maquettes were built as full scale installations.
