2040: Strange Fruit

After reading “The Cross and the Lynching Tree” by James H. Cone, the oppression from white supremacists from 1895-1950’s included lynching black people to keep them in their place. Over 4,600 people died by hanging in the U.S. There were 2 safe places if you were black: The Juke Joint and the Church. On Friday and Saturday nights, Black people could congregate and dance in the Juke Joint and on Sunday, they would show up for church because Jesus sacrificed his life for the oppressed and Lynching was linked to this sacrifice. Fear was the tactic that whites used to subdue black people.
