2040 Series

2040 is the projected year when the white population in America will no longer be in the majority. 2045 is when the U.S. Census Bureau projects the change will happen, but a number of authors believe it may be earlier. This series of maquettes (scale models for large installations that can be walked through), addresses various aspects of the effects of systematic racism that has developed over time. Issues such as voting rights, lynching, redlining, curtailed wealth, housing, education, limiting opportunities, etc., have impacted the Black, Indigenous, & People of Color (BIPOC) populations in the United States. The contrast within each maquette generally contrasts the differences visually, and the concepts were developed after reading 20 + books written by scholars on racism. The series began after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN in 2020. The series will continue into the future. When built, these installations would be approximately 20’ long by 20’ wide, and up to 12’ tall.
